In September 2022, with a teeny tiny 5 month old, we spent a long weekend in Broome, WA.
We flew from Perth to Broome at 10am on a Friday and flew back at 2pm on a Monday. It was the perfect first adventure for first time parents, with a quick flight, no time zone changes and a short and sweet beach side holiday.
ACCOMODATION
We booked quite last minute and the nicest place we could find available was Mangrove Hotel, which was definitely a lot nicer in the photos that it looked in real life – HA. Though looking at the website now, maybe they have had a recent renovation? The setting over Roebuck Bay is beautiful and the hotel has an expansive lawn area which is perfect for children! It wasn’t too far to go over to Cable Beach, which we did one evening for dinner and a stroll. The pool at this time of the year was a bit too chilly for us and our 5 month old to do much swimming sadly.
The room we stayed in was on the first floor and there was no elevator – so if this would make things ticky, maybe enquire ahead. It was a bit annoying if Elliot was asleep in the pram when we got home, as it was hard to carry the pram up the very skinny stairs with him asleep inside!
FOOD
One night we went into the town – which could absolutely have been skipped. The other night we went across to Cable Beach and had fish and chips on the foreshore – obviously a must! And the 3rd night we had an amazing dinner at Johnny Sausage at the hotel, which was actually excellent. Our little possum slept in his pram at the table after he had his own dinner, it was perfect!
LOGISTICS
We packed soooo muh stuff for our very first trip, and of course he had just started solids and was still sleeping in a portacot.
– we took the travel pram, which was a good decision for us, he slept in the pram at this age so was perfect for on the go naps
– we didnt take a car seat, we drove to the airport and parked our car there and we caught the town shuttle from the airport to the accomodation, and also from Rowbuck Bay to Cable Beach, and didnt plan/do much else in the way of travel or exploring
– we took pouches for solids, he didnt really need much at this age so didnt burden ourselves with too much
– we took the travel cot and a white noise machine which worked well in a little nook near the window, he was going to bed about 9pm at night at this stage so sleeping in the same room wasnt too much of a problem
– in terms of carrier, we took our Marsupi as we werent planning on adventuring too much and its so light weight to pack away
We went out to the weekend markets which was a lovely morning out, it is a short walk from the hotel. We really didn’t do much else whilst we were in Broome and if we went back we would definitely head to the Cable Beach side. Would love to hear your reviews of Cable Beach Resort, as we have never been!
